Clocks have been started on the final round of the 2025 Missouri Open! Julien Prolieko has the lead, but he faces off against Alvin He, who at half a point behind still has a fighting chance to take the tournament. William Kerns also remains in striking distance if the top board goes the right way and he can find a full point against Jim McLaughlin.In the Reserve, two players, Michael Abron, the man famous for his playing a rated tournament in all fifty states run, and Zengpeng Ye, a provision player rated only 1045, who is looking to be much stronger than his rating currently stands face off on board 1. There were two former Missouri State Champions at this year's event. They met head to head in round Three to see who would go into the final round in the driver's seat of the Open. Jim McLaughlin, a mainstay of Missouri Chess since the 1960s met up the slightly younger current defending champion Julian Prolieko in round 4. The game got complicated quickly, but when the dust settles Prolieko found the win to take the first sole first of the tournament. While the Reserve saw Michael Abron return to the top board to face undefeated Logan Kammerer. Round Three underway at the 2025 Missouri Open. Both sections have been brutal with upsets happening from top to bottom In the Open, no player managed to grab 2 wins in the first 2 rounds, leaving a logjam at the top. 5 players, Julian Prolieko, James McLaughlin, Forrest Yang, Ryan Deering and Cael Province, are currently at 1.5/2. They are each hoping for a win this round to go into day 2 in the lead.In the Reserve section, upset draws have been the mainstay of the section. Only 3 players out of 24 managed to win their first 2 games.
